Samsung Galaxy Fold 8 Leaks Reveal Major Design Changes

Samsung May Be Preparing Its Biggest Foldable Strategy Shift Yet

Samsung’s next generation of foldable smartphones is already generating serious attention months ahead of launch, as new leaks suggest the company is preparing a major redesign strategy for its upcoming Galaxy Fold 8 lineup.

Fresh images shared by well-known industry insider Ice Universe appear to reveal early mockups of both the Galaxy Fold 8 and the premium Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra, showing one of the most interesting design differences Samsung has introduced in years.

Unlike previous generations where Samsung largely maintained similar design language across foldable models, the upcoming Fold 8 series could offer two distinctly different form factors, giving consumers more choice depending on how they prefer to use foldable devices.

And that could signal a much larger shift in Samsung’s long-term foldable strategy.

Galaxy Fold 8 Could Introduce a Wider Display Format

The biggest change highlighted by leaked renders involves the standard Galaxy Fold 8.

According to early reports, Samsung is redesigning the device with a noticeably wider body and a larger internal display featuring a 4:3 aspect ratio, making the phone look far different from previous Fold devices.

The design would create a more tablet-like experience when unfolded, improving usability for multitasking, media consumption, gaming, and productivity-focused tasks.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra appears to keep a more familiar design language, closely resembling the current Galaxy Fold 7, with Samsung seemingly preserving the slimmer body profile users have become familiar with.

This effectively creates two completely different user experiences under the same product family.

Samsung May Be Responding to Apple’s Foldable iPhone Plans

Industry analysts believe Samsung’s design shift may not be happening by accident.

Reports suggest Apple is actively developing its first foldable iPhone, often referred to in leaks as the iPhone Ultra, with rumors pointing toward a similarly wide-screen folding design.

Samsung may be moving early to establish dominance in that category before Apple officially enters the foldable smartphone market.

At the same time, Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has already intensified competition after launching its own wide-screen foldable devices earlier this year, increasing pressure across the premium foldable segment.

The race for foldable smartphone leadership is becoming increasingly competitive.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Expected Across Both Models

Under the hood, both Fold 8 models are expected to feature Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, which should bring major performance improvements focused on artificial intelligence processing, battery efficiency, and flagship-level gaming performance.

Current leaks suggest the standard Galaxy Fold 8 may include:

  • 5.4-inch outer display
  • 7.6-inch internal folding display
  • 4,800mAh battery
  • 45W fast charging support
  • Dual 50MP rear camera system
  • No dedicated telephoto camera

The Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra, meanwhile, is expected to push hardware slightly further.

Leaked specifications currently suggest:

  • 5,000mAh battery
  • 45W fast charging
  • New 50MP ultra-wide camera
  • Similar slim design carried over from Fold 7
  • Higher-end camera tuning and premium build materials

While Samsung has yet to confirm final specifications, both devices are expected to remain among the company’s most powerful smartphones of 2026.

New Colors and Storage Options Have Also Leaked

Additional reports suggest Samsung is preparing multiple new color options across the Fold lineup.

The standard Fold 8 is rumored to launch in:

  • Cream
  • Graphite
  • Lavender
  • Pistachio

The premium Fold 8 Ultra may arrive in:

  • Cream
  • Graphite
  • Green Shadow
  • Violet Shadow

Both devices are expected to offer 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options, continuing Samsung’s focus on premium flagship positioning.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Flip 8 is also expected to launch alongside the Fold series, reportedly introducing new hinge technology, a nearly crease-free display, and regional versions powered by Samsung’s upcoming Exynos 2600 processor.

Samsung’s July Event Could Reveal Its Most Important Foldables Yet

According to multiple leaks, Samsung is planning its next major Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, 2026, in London.

The event is expected to introduce the Galaxy Fold 8, Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Flip 8, Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, and the upcoming Galaxy Watch 9 lineup.

For Samsung, this launch could become one of its most important hardware events in years.

Foldable smartphones remain one of the company’s biggest competitive advantages against Apple, Google, and Chinese manufacturers aggressively entering the premium hardware space.

And based on current leaks, Samsung may finally be preparing to offer something foldable buyers have wanted for years.

Choice.

Instead of forcing users into a single foldable design philosophy, Samsung appears ready to let consumers decide exactly how they want the future of smartphones to look.

And that could make the Galaxy Fold 8 lineup one of the most important launches of 2026.
